Woah...vorvayne... *mouth gaping open* You did that on first try? You are so GOOD~ *squee* Can you give me some advice being a bit experienced? *comes closer to whisper* I don't have any scanner or cameras to take pictures in so I can't learn to draw traditionally in such a short time... What application is the best one for me to start with? I seemed to have problem with basic shapes, but I hope to iron them out eventually.

Awww, thank you! I think that, uh, I may have inadvertently stumbled onto something I'm reasonably good at. I'm having gnarly shading issues right now though, it's definitely not all smooth sailing.
I still recommend photoshop, which (shhhhhh) you can just download. GIMP is a similar free option - I think? - but I have no idea how to use that.
The thing about photoshop is that it looks really complicated - and it is, in fairness, full of features and bells and whistles - but the basic elements you need to get started are nice and easy to use.
I recommend you start off with a reference image, and really spend time making your picture look like the reference. Don't feel bad about "copying" - you're getting a feel for how the ponies are structured and drawn that will help you out loads when you come to draw more advanced things.
Hey, maybe I should make a "foolproof guide to the very basics of photoshop" tutorial. Thoughts?

Right....download...*obvious wink* Got it~ *slaute* I hope this photoshop thingy isn't too hard to use. I've seen it around and mentioned, but I don't think I ever approached it with intention to draw before. I hope its as easy as Microsoft Paint Tool... GIMP...I got that, read about it being good to start drawing, although its pretty confusing to use. Copying huh...*bites lips* Looks like I have to swallow that irrational Asian Honour/Pride, but I'll do that. Starting with that Twilight Sparkle and probably even your first Fluttershy art. Foolproof guide to very basics of Photoshop? Why not!~ *grins* I am definitely a fool for this things and that will help me a lot! *scratches head* Although I wonder whether I can still try to join that Art Competition...

Tutorial in progress! I think I'm going to make a new drawing for it. Photoshop' basic elements are pretty easy to use, although there are a few annoying quirks. You just...start with the really obvious necessary stuff - the brush tool for drawing, the select tool for selecting and resizing, the erase tool - then you can slowly add more functions in to your repertoire. At the moment I'm exploring the world of shading, and the dodge and burn tools.

'dodge and burn tools'? *cringe* Yikes! (Too complicated) Let me stick to brush tool, select tool and erase tool, for now please, Thank you~ I will start doing this later, at the day's end. Although, do I need to get one of those drawing tablet thingies to do this, properly? Or as an alternative, does the mouse or laptop touchpad work better here? Thank you very much for the fast and swift replies!

Laptop touchpad will work just fine, it will just take you a bit longer, and it's pretty fiddly. Don't worry though. Vorvayne is working on a tutorial that's designed to be done without a graphics tablet If you want a graphics tablet: A graphics tablet isn't necessary but it's pretty useful, and makes drawing easier and much more enjoyable! I'm not sure what country you're in so I don't know what currency to convert to, but a good price range for one to make sure it actually works is anything from about £30 GBP and upwards. And don't get a flexi tablet. They never work and break easily. I spent £65 on my tablet and it's fantastic. It's a Bamboo Wacom Pen & Touch 30 GBP is about 50 USD, or 4000 Japanese Yen (You'd be amazed how often I have to convert into dollars and yen.) Hopefully you'll be able to get an idea from that.

So a laptop touchpad might be better than using a mouse? Thats good to hear, I won't have to wrestle the mouse for me to use~ Although clicking/dragging need getting used to. GBP huh? Which part of the United Kingdom? *grins* I myself came from Brunei in South-East Asia, so you might not have heard about it. Small Kingdom, 400 thousand people, two seperate pieces near the coast on Borneo (NOT a part of Malaysia, we are much older than them). $50 USD...thats about $80 or so Dollars in my currency (Brunei and Singapore share same currency). Quite Pricey...definitely much larger than two months or so of my allowance. And we have to buy it online or overpriced in the neighbouring country...*slightly sad* Looks like I will just wait and practice first~ Thank you for the tips and Ideas, hopefully I will be able to complete my first quest on this Forum! *Cheer*
